LAURA SCHWARTZ MHP ONE STEP CLOSER TO “GREEN” PRESERVATION
May 18, 2011
CRANBERRY TWP, PA (May 11, 2011): Church Restoration Group, LLC (CRG) is pleased to announce Laura Schwartz, MHP, is now LEED Green Associate accredited. The Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI) has created LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Associate credential for professionals with basic knowledge of green design, construction and operations. It is also a prerequisite in the process of achieving specific LEED certifications.
“Sustainable design was always an interest to me” stated Schwartz, “but I was never really sure how Historic Preservation and Green Architecture could walk hand in hand with each other as they seemed to be enemies—maintaining the historic fabric versus using today’s leading technology to create a better indoor environment” It wasn’t until she read an article from her favorite Preservation Magazine that it “clicked”.
“The answer is yes, preservation and sustainable design can work hand in hand,” explained Schwartz. “As with any design challenge, it takes innovative changes, unique ideas and an understanding that each circumstance may require a different creative technique. It is up to us, as preservationist, to step up to the plate and reinvent ourselves. Historic buildings cannot just remind us of the past, they need to be financially and environmentally viable in order to meet the tomorrow’s standards, without that, these buildings are doomed to become obsolete.”
